17 Sep One Step Forward in the Realm of Inclusiveness
Inclusiveness is one of the priorities of NCA’s new strategy and due to continuous efforts and work it will gradually be incorporated in all directions of the Centre’s activities. As part of “Dance Without Borders” project initiated by the British Council, the NCA Small Theater established the first professional inclusive dance group in Armenia in 2013, thereby becoming the best visible example of major changes in this field. The close and ongoing cooperation with United Kingdom’s eminent dance company “Candoco” played a constructive role in its establishment and development. Since its establishment the dance group has created six different inclusive plays which have been performed more than a hundred times in Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Scotland. The positive feedback as well as the consistent discussions at the state level regarding the project acted as a catalyst for establishing an inclusive dance training centre in Armenia as the best format for developing inclusive art. With the support of the British Council the NCA organized an online meeting with “Candoco” Dance Company as part of the Centre’s creation process. NCA Director and Artistic Director of the Small Theatre Vahan Badalyan along with the members of the inclusive dance group talked about the works implemented in Armenia, presented their experience, and discussed the next steps of collaboration with their British counterparts.
These continuous meetings will enable the creation of the educational formats and mechanisms to guide Armenia’s inclusive dance Centre.
