Diary of a Madman
by N. Gogol story
“Diary of a Madman” is a first-person narrative presented in the form of a diary. It is the tale of Poprischin, a government clerk who gradually descends into insanity. Throughout the story, interludes of lucidity provide striking counterpoint to the deepening psychosis. Gogol’s text even today proves modern and sad. The performance is full of grotesque, bitter humor, unexpected tenderness and beauty.
